Once a year Mount Hope Church hosts an event called “Bless the City”. This year they took it to another level and are spending the entire week blessing the City of Lansing.
Mount Hope Church says,
“…we are taking Bless the City and extending it for five days with each day designated on one initiative to help share hope with Lansing and the Surrounding Area. We need your help to bring hope and love into our city, so whether through food donations, cleaning up local parks, or helping the widows and homeless, there’s an opportunity for you to get involved!”
Cristo Rey Community Center was overcome with gratitude as Mount Hope Church chose us to lend their helping hands. The first group of volunteers showed up at the doors to help out in the kitchen at 8:30 to make breakfast. Potatoes were chopped, eggs were cracked, and warm meals were prepared for our community members.
Then a second group pulled in at 11 am to help tear down two buildings that were no longer in use and becoming a hazard. With whatever tool the volunteers could find, they tirelessly dismantled the windows, siding, and walls. A whole lot of demolition took place! Thank you to Granger Recycling Center for donating a large dumpster!
While the volunteers were here you could sense their willingness to share all that they had to give. And then, Mt. Hope went even further than the initial blessing! They gave a generous monetary donation and a surplus of basic need items to stock our personal needs pantry.
They came as volunteers and left as friends.
Thank you, Mount Hope Church.
