Salary: $35,568.00 to $46,238.40 /year


Position
Under the direction of the Financial Empowerment Program Manager, this individual provides high quality one-on-one financial education and counseling to empower individuals to manage their income and experience financial independence.

Responsibilities:

  • • Assesses client needs and develops individual financial action plans with each client
  • Documents and follows up with counseling sessions to track individual progress in order to help the individual meet their financial goal as well as demonstrate FEC program success to increase funds sponsoring the program
  • Builds rapport with clients to cultivate trust and engagement in counseling sessions
  • Communicates with third parties including collection agencies, lawyers, and lenders on behalf of clients to verify or resolve billing or collection errors, disputes, and negotiation
  • Refers clients to community resources to allow the individual to obtain the additional help needed
  • Provides 660 individualized one-on-one financial counseling sessions (including both initial and follow-up sessions) and achieves a minimum of 100 client outcomes per year
  • Engages in ongoing follow up with clients to provide support and guidance to reach the goals outlined in their financial action plan
  • Collects, tracks, and reports required data using the client management database
  • Participates in initial trainings and ongoing professional development trainings
  • Follows the established required protocol and program requirements
  • Follows client confidentiality policies as outlined in the personnel policies and procedures
  • All other duties as assigned by the Program Manager

Qualifications:

  • Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education (AFCPE) Certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire, with ongoing continuing education requirements satisfactorily maintained
  • Bilingual – English and Spanish – preferred
  • Valid Michigan driver’s license
  • Knowledgeable regarding credit, debt, and money management; savings and investment options; and safe financial products and services
  • Self-motivated and able to work efficiently and effectively to meet program goals
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse population
  • Excellent working knowledge of the Microsoft Suite

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in one of the following areas: financial services, social work, financial planning, business, or related field
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in community work or community centered activities in the area related to the duties described above
