Overview

The Director of Counseling Services is responsible for overseeing and developing the Cristo Rey Counseling & Prevention Services program including hiring, supervision, evaluation and scheduling. Develop, plan and implement strategies for program continuation and growth. This position must have a positive and supportive attitude toward Cristo Rey Community Center and its overall success. Must have the ability to think globally, solve problems and have good decision-making skills including critical thinking skills.

Qualifications and requirements

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Master of Social Work, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Psychologist, or Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in the state of Michigan
  • Three to five years of progressively responsible non-profit program management experience and staff supervision
  • Minimum five years clinical practice
  • Holds and maintains the following MCBAP credentials:
  • Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor
  • Certified Prevention Specialist
  • Certified Clinical Supervisor, or have a CCS filed with appropriate supervision scheduled
  • Experience and confidence identifying and implementing evidence based practices
  • Experience working in crisis setting with individuals and families

Skills and abilities

  • Skilled in recovery, motivational interviewing, trauma informed care, and the value of peers (recovery specialist)
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to relate well with persons from a variety of socioeconomic and cultural groups
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Program development, evaluation, with solid organizational and public speaking skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency in computer skills, especially using Outlook, Word, Excel and customized databases
  • Ability to work in and adapt to a multi-cultural, community based organization.
  • Commitment to maintain confidentiality
  • Understanding of Cristo Rey Community Center’s mission and culture and the ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with staff and clients in all circumstances
  • Bilingual skills preferred

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and oversee all aspects of the program following Cristo Rey Community Center’s mission, demonstrated by setting program goals and objectives
  • Maintain State licensing standards and all other standards as set forth in all contractual agreements
  • Project, develop, and monitor revenues and expenses for the Counseling Services Department; work closely with the Finance Department to maintain the department’s budget
  • Implement and manage changes to ensure project goals and objectives are met for grants and special initiatives including producing accurate and timely reporting
  • Ongoing chart reviews to ensure compliance with Federal/State requirements
  • Recommend hiring of staff; provide clinical and administrative supervision, evaluation, scheduling, promotion and corrective action of program staff
  • Promote a positive public relations image of Cristo Rey Community Center
  • Any other duties assigned by the Executive Director
